Javelin throw is a track and field event where athletes aim to throw a spear-like object, called a javelin, as far as possible. The javelin must be held at the grip and thrown overhand. Athletes run within a marked runway and must release the javelin before crossing the foul line. The javelin must land tip-first within a designated sector for the throw to be valid. The athlete with the farthest legal throw wins. In major competitions, athletes typically have three to six attempts, and only their best throw is counted.
